A former fishing village on the Mediterranean, Le Grau-du-Roi has kept its lively harbour and the channel where the trawlers come in. Nearby, L’Espiguette beach is one of the finest unspoilt stretches of the coast, with its dunes and lighthouse.
From Le Moulin Bérénice: About 35 minutes by car.
Don’t miss
- L’Espiguette beach : 7 km of fine sand lined with dunes and no buildings, no lifeguards (naturist area at the far end).
- Boucanet beach, between Le Grau-du-Roi and La Grande-Motte: fine sand, a family beach with lifeguards, where children can stand for at least 50 metres.
- L’Espiguette lighthouse, standing among the dunes.
- The fishing harbour and channel, to watch the boats come in and enjoy fish and shellfish.
- Port-Camargue, one of the largest marinas in Europe.
- The Seaquarium, a favourite with children.
Good to know
In summer, arrive early: the Espiguette car park fills up fast.
