A story told in stone
The building already appears on the 1820 French military survey map. Some of its stones probably weigh more than a tonne, others are engraved or carved, and its semi-fortified west wall is pierced with arrow slits. Its square tower, near the old locality known as « Moulin à Vent » (the windmill), gave the house its name.
Bernis, a village of 3,500 people, dates back to the Roman « Villa Bernice » on the Via Domitia. It is surrounded by protected countryside: a Natura 2000 site and the Costières de Nîmes.
