Below the hilltop village of La Roque-sur-Cèze, one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, the Cèze river rushes through an astonishing jumble of limestone rocks. Over the centuries the water has carved potholes, fissures and waterfalls: a spectacular landscape, unique in the Gard.
From Le Moulin Bérénice: about 1 hour 15 by car.
Don’t miss
- Walking across the stone slabs, right next to the waterfalls and the gorges carved by the river.
- The village of La Roque-sur-Cèze, its cobbled lanes and Romanesque chapel.
- The old bridge over the Cèze, with its view of the village.
- The pebble beaches upstream and downstream of the site, to cool off in summer.
Good to know
Swimming at the waterfalls is dangerous and forbidden: the currents and deep holes are treacherous. Only swim in the permitted areas, upstream or downstream. Wear good shoes as the rock can be slippery. In summer, come early in the morning: parking fills up fast.
