In the north of the Gard, the Cévennes unfold a landscape of mountains, deep valleys, chestnut forests and stone villages. The Cévennes National Park and the Causses and Cévennes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, make it a paradise for hiking and exploring.

From Le Moulin Bérénice: Anduze, gateway to the Cévennes, about 50 minutes by car.

Don’t miss

  • Anduze, gateway to the Cévennes, and its famous pottery.
  • The Bambouseraie de Prafrance, an exotic bamboo garden unique in Europe.
  • The Cévennes steam train, between Anduze and Saint-Jean-du-Gard.
  • Mont Aigoual, the highest point in the Gard, and its weather observatory.
  • The Trabuc Cave and the Musée du Désert, devoted to the history of the Cévennes Protestants.
  • Hiking, including the Stevenson Trail (GR 70).

Good to know

Mountain roads are winding, so allow plenty of time. In summer, the Cévennes rivers have lovely swimming spots.
